MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue, the country’s biggest revenue generating agency, ranked third among the top government offices with the highest resolution on complaints for the first semester of the year.

Data from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) showed that the BIR received a total of 112 referrals on citizen’s concerns from the CSC from January to June. Of this, 30 percent or 34 are classified as complaints against the BIR.

Seventy percent or 78 of the 112 citizen’s concerns about BIR are requests for assistance related to its services and queries on taxation.

Also included are comments and suggestions on tax policies, as well as commendations on identified BIR officials and employees.

The BIR said all of the 34 complaints against the agency had been acted upon and resolved, including all the other 78 citizen’s concerns.

This earned the BIR a 100 percent resolution rate for all the citizen’s concerns referred to the agency during the period.

“BIR-related complaints and concerns received from taxpayers play a vital role in helping us further improve our processes and delivery of services to our taxpaying public,” BIR commissioner Lilia Guillermo said.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development ranked first followed by the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG.

Other agencies with high resolution rate are the Department of Interior and Local Government, Social Security System, Land Registration Authority, the departments of health, education, and foreign affairs, as well as the Land Transportation Office.
