Dito passes 2nd network review

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — New major telecommunications player Dito Telecommunity Corp. has passed the technical audit for its second year commitments with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

Based on the findings of NTC’s independent auditor, Dito was able to deliver on its national population coverage and minimum average broadband speed commitments for the second year.

The audit found that Dito’s calculated national population coverage is at 52.75 percent, and its minimum average broadband speeds are 89.13 mbps and 853.96 mbps for all 4G and 5G sites, respectively.

As part of the issuance of its certificate of public convenience and necessity in July last year, Dito committed to deliver national population coverage of 51.01 percent and minimum average broadband speed of 55 mbps in the second year of its commitment period.

Dito last February passed its maiden technical audit which checked its capacity to deliver on its first year commitments of covering 37 percent of the population and providing 27 mbps minimum average internet speed.

Overall, the new major telco player has committed to increase basic internet speed to 55 mbps and cover 84 percent of the country’s population over a five-year period through a total of P257 billion investment.

Dito made its commercial debut last March 8 in selected areas in Visayas and Mindanao, and made its entry in Metro Manila on May 17.

The telco, owned by the group of Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy and state-owned China Telecommunications, was able to hit the two million subscriber mark last Aug. 3.

It is currently present in 210 cities and municipalities nationwide.
