MANILA, Philippines — Subscribers of new telecommunications player Dito Telecommunity Corp. continue to grow as the company breached the one million-mark just a few months since its commercial launch.

“Reaching one million subscribers in a span of three months is a feat that all of us at Dito are certainly proud of,” Dito chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said.

Dito made its commercial debut last March 8 in selected areas in the Visayas and Mindanao.

On May 17, it made its much-awaited entry in Metro Manila.

Dito’s entry in NCR last month was expected to help the company beef up its subscriber base.

In line with its one million milestone, Dito said it is giving free one GB of data to each its first one million subscribers.

“Please stay tuned in the next few days as we will share more information on how to claim your free 1GB reward. A notification will be sent through the Dito app and via SMS to the first one million subscribers with activated Dito SIM cards,” Tamano said.

Dito’s commercial services are currently available in 123 cities and municipalities across the country.

The company is targeting to be present in 146 areas by the end of the month.

With its continuous expansion, the telco owned by the group of Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy and state-owned China Telecommunications intends to end the year with a couple of million subscribers.

Meanwhile, publicly-listed DITO CME Holdings Corp, through its subsidiary ISM Equities Corp., has signed a sales and supply agreement with Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. for its IT and mobile division.

“We are proud to be partnering with one of the world’s most-recognizable names in technology and consumer electronics. Together, we are well-positioned to meet the ever-changing demands of the Filipinos, especially as the market transitions to an emerging digital economy,” DITO CME chairman and CEO Dennis Uy said.

With the agreement, DITO CME president Eric Alberto said the company could conveniently tap into Dito Telecommunity, as well as other major potential distribution points within the Udenna Group such as Family Mart and Phoenix and open avenues for Samsung in the network of corporate customers.
