Toyota warns clients against online scams
MANILA, Philippines — Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) is reminding customers to be wary of online scams with fake promos offering freebies in celebration of the firm’s supposed 80th anniversary circulating on social media platforms.
TMP said it received reports that a fraudulent message is being passed on social media platforms and communication apps inviting recipients to click on a link to claim a free gift from the automotive company for its 80th anniversary.
“Recipients are strongly advised not to click on the link and to refrain from forwarding the message. The message leads to a deceptive website that will attempt to steal personal information and data,” TMP said.
For recipients that have already clicked the link, TMP recommends that they immediately change passwords and activate the two-factor authentication.
“TMP is encouraging everyone to scrutinize every message received, most especially if they are promising prizes or free gifts for activities the recipient did not sign up for,” the firm said.
It said the company nor its dealerships would not ask customers for private information through unauthorized channels.
Any legitimate information or promotion would be announced by TMP through its official website toyota.com.ph, as well as its social media accounts facebook.com/toyotamotorphilippines on Facebook, @toyotamotorphilippines on Instagram, and @ToyotaMotorPH on Twitter.
TMP is the country’s leading automotive firm.
Incorporated in 1988, TMP has a manufacturing plant in Sta. Rosa in Laguna, and 71 dealerships nationwide.
