MANILA, Philippines — Mobile wallet GCash has teamed up with budget carrier AirAsia Philippines to help revive the local tourism industry.

Fred Levy, GCash chief commercial officer, said collaborating with AirAsia is seen to provide their users with more convenient option to pay for their bookings.

The partnership will enable GCash users to pay for their AirAsia plane fare and accommodation in partner hotels, providing safety and convenience to travelers.

“We want to make sure that GCash is available in the places that you are traveling to for payment and also cash in,” Levy said.

“We are forging more and more impactful partnership from private and public sector. The goal is always the same, helping create a more inclusive ecosystem with the relevant product that address the daily solution for all users,” he said.

Levy said GCash has also been reaching out to municipalities outside of the metro areas to increase its presence nationwide.

“Expect in the future more and more involvement of GCash in the tourism ecosystem. Clearly, this AirAsia partnership is a fundamental break in that objective for us,” he said.

GCash, which has over 40 million users to date, sees AirAsia as a valuable addition to its robust portfolio of top Filipino corporate and consumer-oriented partners.

AirAsia Philippines expects the partnership with the mobile wallet to bring safe and affordable travel even more within reach of Filipinos through the exciting promo offers and discounts that will be available exclusively to GCash.

“More importantly, this collaboration is a great way of expanding both our subscriber bases as we continue to navigate through the shifting business landscape which continue to rapidly evolve amid the pandemic,” AirAsia Philippines chief finance officer Ray Berja said.

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla said the company’s digital transformation has allowed it to see great opportunities amid all the challenges that confronted the airline business due to the pandemic.

“Providing convenience through digital and contactless solutions while observing the highest standards of safety has always been AirAsia’s commitment to our guests. Our partnership with GCash, the country’s leading e-wallet empowers our guests with flexible cashless options as we all gear up to fly again to our favorite leisure destinations,” Isla said.

“We look forward to strengthening this partnership with GCash as AirAsia continues to embark on its journey to becoming more than just an airline,” he said.
