Sun Life assets under management grows to P127 billion

MANILA, Philippines — Assets under the management of Sun Life Asset Management Company Inc. (SLAMCI) rose to P127 billion by the end of 2020 despite the uncertainties and market volatility caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, SLAMCI said pandemic-induced uncertainties did not hinder the company’s performance in 2020 as it was able to book a 60 percent year-on-year growth in its assets under management (AUM).

SLAMCI said clients remained invested despite the decline in the stock market, enabling the company to retain its spot as the largest non-bank asset management firm in the country.

Gerald Bautista, president of SLAMCI, said this milestone was achieved through constant efforts to keep clients informed amid the health crisis.

“In the previous year, we devoted much of our time communicating with clients through different distribution channels and digital touchpoints, keeping them informed about the market’s performance along with opportunities investing in Sun Life Prosperity Funds, reexamining clients’ portfolio, and what would be the best steps for them to take,” he said.

“It was our way of letting them know that we remain at their side in their financial journey,” he said.

Bautista said this was also complemented by digital solutions which allowed SLAMCI to continue serving their clients even amid mobility restrictions imposed to contain COVID-19.

“We were able to assist clients who wanted to invest in both onshore or offshore market opportunities, as well as those who wished to liquidate their investment for emergency situations,” Bautista said.

Among the top performing peso-denominated funds of SLAMCI is the Sun Life Prosperity World Equity Index Fund, which had a return of 11.33 percent since its launch in July 2020.

Sun Life Prosperity Bond Fund also recorded a full-year return of 4.24 percent, while Sun Life Prosperity Money Market Fund saw a return of 2.49 percent.

SLAMCI said its dollar-denominated funds likewise performed well, with the Sun Life Prosperity Voyager Fund posting a 21.03 percent full-year return; Sun Life Prosperity Dollar Advantage with 15 percent; and the Sun Life Dollar Wellspring Fund with 8.28 percent.
