3 bidders shortlisted for First Gen FSRU supply

Catherine Talavera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The liquefied natural gas (LNG) unit of First Gen Corp. has shortlisted three bidders for the charter of a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) in its interim offshore LNG terminal.

FGen LNG Corp. said BW Gas Ltd., GasLog LNG Services Ltd. and Hoegh LNG Asia Pte Ltd. have satisfactorily completed a non-binding pre-qualification process.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has allowed FGen LNG earlier to push through with its interim offshore LNG terminal at the First Gen Clean Energy Complex in Batangas City.

“BW Gas Ltd., GasLog LNG Services Ltd. and Hoegh LNG Asia Pte Ltd. are all very experienced players in the international LNG industry and we are delighted that they have expressed such keen interest in providing a suitable FSRU for the benefit of the project and the Philippines,” First Gen  executive vice president and chief commercial officer Jonathan Russell said.

An FSRU is a LNG carrier capable of storing LNG and has an onboard regasification plant capable of returning LNG into a gaseous state and then supplying it directly into the gas network.  A typical FSRU has a storage capacity of between 125,000 cubic meters and 170,000 cubic meters.

FGen LNG said the interim offshore LNG terminal would accelerate its ability to introduce LNG to the Philippines as early as the third quarter of 2022, to serve the natural gas requirements of existing and future gas-fired power plants of third parties and FGen LNG affiliates.

FGen LNG is a wholly owned subsidiary of First Gen, one of the biggest independent power producers in the country and the leading gas power generation company in the Philippines with approximately 2,000 MW in operating gas assets.
