Weak Globe signal looms for Acropolis homeowners

MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom Inc. warns its customers in Acropolis in Quezon City of continued difficulty in making calls, sending text messages and accessing the internet due to weak signals following the rejection of the company’s plan to install a cell tower inside the exclusive village.

Globe said members of the Acropolis Greens Homeowners Association Inc. (AGHAI) denied the firm’s recommendation to put up a cell site inside the village premises.

The decision to construct a cell site inside the village was made after a technical survey was conducted following several complaints from the residents of weak connectivity.

Vince Tempongko, Globe vice president and head of site acquisition and management of network technical group, said surveys conducted in Acropolis showed that there are no other available or suitable sites nearby to serve the connectivity requirements of the residents of the village.

He said telecommunication infrastructure has to be installed within the village, which is the most effective and efficient location for the cell tower.

According to the Ayala-led telco, reasons cited for the denial in the cell site installation included perceived health risks that cell towers cause, as well as safety concerns in a typhoon or a major earthquake that will lead to the tower’s collapse.
