NIA completes Ifugao irrigation project

Louise Maureen Simeon - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The National Irrigation Administration has completed the P70-million irrigation project in Ifugao in efforts to cover more agricultural areas.

NIA recently inaugurated the P70-million diversion dam structures of the Hapid Irrigation System in Lamut, Ifugao in the Cordilleras.

The irrigation system used to have a gravity intake-type diversion dam which draws irrigation water from the Ibulao River.

With the completion of the diversion dam, NIA said irrigation service delivery is now more reliable and efficient.

The project covers 11 barangays of Lamut in Ifugao, benefitting 1,500 farmers and their families.

To date, the irrigated area of the system is pegged at 1,040 hectares which is the targeted area for this wet cropping season.

NIA remains committed to its mandate of providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable irrigation services to local farmers.
