Maynilad eyes more customers

MANILA, Philippines — West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. aims to add 14,000 more customers to its sewerage system this year with the installation of 2,000 new sewer service connections in Manila

The Pangilinan-led firm said the new sewer lines would expand its existing sewerage system, which catches wastewater generated by customers and conveys it to sewage treatment plants for proper treatment.

“Despite restrictions brought by the quarantine, we are resuming our sewer line installation activities so we can expedite the expansion of our wastewater infrastructure,” Maynilad chief operating officer Randolph Estrellado said.

Since 2007, Maynilad has already invested more than P40 billion in wastewater projects. This brings its current wastewater infrastructure to 22 treatment facilities, 606 kilometers of sewer lines, and 102 wastewater pumping and lift stations.

The utility firm is set to spend P200 billion more to continue expansion of the wastewater infrastructure until 100 percent sewerage coverage in the west zone is attained by 2037.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the country in terms of customer base. It serves the areas of Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and certain portions of Manila, Quezon City, Makati and Cavite.
