Toyota aims to sell 20K Vios this year

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) is aiming to sell more than 20,000 units of the Vios this year as it rolled out the 2020 edition of its best-selling locally assembled passenger car.

TMP first vice president Rommel Gutierrez said the company is targeting to sell a total of 23,000 Vios units this year.

He said the target includes the 14,000 units sales goal for the new Vios.

TMP president Atsuhiro Okamoto said in a press conference Saturday, the new Vios is being introduced first in the Philippines as the country is an important market for the vehicle model.

“We in Toyota are highly proud of the Philippine market, especially Vios sales. So, the first implementation is for the Philippines,” he said.

TMP expects the new Vios to continue the vehicle model’s streak as the country’s top-selling car for more than a decade, as well as to lead the resurgence of the Philippine automotive industry, which has been hit by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, by catering to the market’s demand for an efficient and safe mode of transport.

With almost 320,000 units sold across three generations of the vehicle model, the Vios has positioned itself as the country’s number one passenger car.

For last year alone, the Vios accounted for a 38.6 percent share in its segment.

“You can count on TMP to stay true to our promise of making the world’s best Vios, and in the process, helping the economy, and providing livelihood to thousands of Filipino families,” Okamoto said.

Assembled in Laguna, the Vios is TMP’s entry in the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) program, which provides incentives to automotive firms in exchange for investments in manufacturing.

“Under the CARS program of the government, the Vios is our flagship. It helps support almost 55,000 lives throughout the Toyota network, 71 dealers, 56 local suppliers and countless other business and trade partners,” TMP chairman Alfred Ty said.

The new Vios sports a leveled-up look and has safety features such as SRS (supplemental restraint system) airbags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist control, as well as back camera for the G variants.

With a price range of P671,000 up to P1.071 million, the new Vios is available at Toyota dealerships nationwide starting today.

Loyal TMP customers purchasing the new Vios may take advantage of trade-in discounts, while current car owners and first time buyers can avail of flexible financing deals.

TMP is also making the new Vios available under its car-leasing program Kinto One to cater to customers who want to go for vehicle usership instead of the conventional ownership.
