Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Online marketplace Shopee is providing a P200-million support package for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) whose operations were affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Shopee said the P200-million Seller Support Package would cover up to 80,000 SMEs with presence online to help cushion the impact of the enhanced community quarantine to manage COVID-19 on operations.

Shopee will provide subsidies amounting up to P15,000 per seller who will register for the support package.

Under the support package, sellers will also enjoy reduced commission and transaction fees, as well as the coin cashback feature which gives certain privileges, and free shipping programs free of charge for one month.

In addition, SMEs and sellers can receive sales and marketing support in the form of 20 percent off shop vouchers to strengthen their online visibility and sales.

Shopee will likewise continue to give training to help sellers start as well as grow on the platform.

New SMEs and sellers planning to start their online businesses on Shopee can continue to enjoy all existing benefits which include zero registration fees and zero percent commission fee for marketplace sellers, as well as educational support via Shopee University online courses.

Shopee said it will be monitoring the COVID-19 situation and make adjustments to seller policies when necessary, to help SMEs and sellers adapt to the changes.

“During these challenging times, it is important for us to find ways to help our sellers and SMEs maintain long-term business sustainability. The launch of the Shopee Seller Support Package is part of our larger commitment to support our local communities through this COVID-19 period. We will continue to work closely with our extended network of partners, sellers and shoppers to adapt our business and initiatives where required, as we remain united in getting through this together as one big community,” Shopee Philippines associate director Martin Yu said.

Launched in 2015, Shopee’s platform is designed to provide customers an easy, secure, and fast online shopping experience.

Apart from the Philippines, Shopee is present in six other markets in Asia.
