Kadiwa stores go online

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture is bringing its flagship Kadiwa stores online to cater to more consumers amid the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said the agency has expanded its Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita to serve more consumers in urban areas and improve market linkages between them and the farmers.

“We are making some adjustments in our Kadiwa program, using simple and technological solutions, to ensure continuous and unhampered supply of fresh produce to consumers, particularly those in metropolitan areas,” Dar said.

Through the Kadiwa Online, consumers can buy vegetables from potential suppliers.  Consumers just need to log on to https://homegrown-organics.myshopify.com/collections/kadiwa-ni-ani-at-kita-expres. Deliveries will start  on April 7.

Among the produce available online include cabbage, sayote, carrots, squash, tomato and potato.

Covered areas are Alabang, Antipolo, Bicutan, Bonifacio Global City, Cainta, Caloocan, Fairview, Katipunan, Las Piñas, Libis, Makati, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Pasay, Parañaque, Pasig, Pateros, Quezon City, San Juan, Sucat, Taguig, Taytay and Tondo.

Bank transfers and cash on deliveries are accepted.

The DA will also begin the Kadiwa Express with the goal of tapping the private sector and local government units in the transport and distribution of fresh produce from Agri-Pinoy centers to designated drop-off points in Metro Manila.

Farmers may sell their produce to cooperatives, associations and trading centers in Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Benguet and Quezon province. From there, DA Kadiwa Express personnel will facilitate the transport of products to offloading points, where LGUs can collect their orders.

“Through Kadiwa, even during this crisis, we can be sure that farmers get the best prices for their goods, while providing adequate, access affordable, safe, and nutritious food to the consumers,” Dar said.
