SMC fast-tracks works on Skyway Stage 3

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has vowed to deliver the Skyway Stage 3 project as soon as possible after a fire resulted in the collapse of a portion of the tollroad.

SMC said initial assessment of its technical team showed that approximately 300 meters of the Skyway Stage 3 project was affected.

However, it said the full extent of damage and its impact on the construction has yet to be determined.

“Rest assured, SMC Infrastructure will rebuild and resume construction at
the soonest possible time, with the least delay on the projected completion
date of Skyway 3,” SMC said in a statement.

The fire broke out Saturday morning at a warehouse of San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp.’s plastic plant in Manila.

SMC’s Skyway Stage 3, a project that stretches from Buendia, Makati to San Juan, Manila, Quezon City, all the way to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), is expected to open by April.

The opening of the project is one of the major solutions seen by the Department of Public Works and Highways to address traffic congestion at EDSA.

Once opened, SMC said the Skyway Stage 3 project would take out about 50 percent of vehicles on EDSA.

“We continue to monitor developments and are ready to provide assistance to
anyone directly affected by the incident. We also extend our full support
and cooperation to authorities as they investigate the cause of the fire,” SMC said.
