BDO waives remittance fees for Taal donations

Lawrence Agcaoili - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Sy family-owned BDO Unibank Inc. has waived the remittance fees on cash donations sent through its different remittance offices abroad to make it easier for overseas Filipinos to provide financial assistance to thousands of victims of the Taal Volcano eruption.

BDO senior vice president and head of remittance Genie Gloria said the bank is waiving regular remittance fees for cash donations until March 31.

“We know overseas Filipinos, by the very nature of every Filipino, would love to help their kababayans in the Philippines who were most affected by the Taal eruption through cash donations,” Gloria said.

BDO has extensive remittance coverage across the globe, with overseas remittance offices and partners across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East.

Cash donations sent through BDO Remit offices will then be coursed through different foundations namely BDO Foundation, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc., GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc. and Philippine Red Cross. In turn, these foundations will facilitate the purchase and distribution of relief goods in evacuation centers that temporarily house the Taal victims.

“BDO is serving as bridge to this by waiving regular remittance fees on donations sent through BDO Remit offices. It’s the bank’s way of making sure all donations, every centavo, are spent to buy relief goods. In times like this, you just want to help any which way you can,” Gloria said.

Aside from the different BDO Remit offices, the global remittance partners of the bank are also receiving cash donations for the benefit of the Taal eruption victims, including Remitly, Small World, WorldRemit, Azimo, UAE Exchange Centre and Xpress Money. Regular remittance charges apply.

BDO is a full-service universal bank which provides a wide range of corporate and retail banking services. These services include traditional loan and deposit products, as well as treasury, trust and investments, investment banking, private banking, rural banking, cash management, leasing and finance, remittance, insurance, retail cash cards, credit card services, and stock brokerage services.

BDO has one of the largest distribution networks, with more than 1,400 operating branches and over 4,400 ATMs nationwide. It also has full-service branches in Hong Kong and Singapore as well as overseas remittance and representative offices in Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East.

BDO ranked as the largest bank in terms of total assets, loans, deposits, and trust funds under management.
