PAL adds new Dash-8 to fleet

MANILA, Philippines — Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has received the latest addition to its growing fleet which will soon service the group’s domestic route network.

PAL on Thursday evening welcomed the 86-seater Dehavilland Dash-8 aircraft, formerly called the Bombardier Q400 NG, from Canada.

The new aircraft is part of the 12 aircraft orders placed by PAL in 2017. It is the 11th of the said aircraft orders that has been delivered to date, with the 12th and final Dash-8 scheduled to arrive next month.

To date, PAL has a total of 13 De Havilland turboprop aircraft, 11 of which are 86 seaters and two 76 seaters.

PAL said the new Dehavilland Dash-8 aircraft flew within a period of six days with eight stopovers before reaching Manila.

It took off from Canada (Toronto), followed by eight stopovers before touching down in Manila on Jan. 16.

 “We are excited with every delivery of the Dash-8 known for its fuel-efficiency and quiet engine. It is flying across the islands while experiencing seat comfort, snacks and drinks and an ultra-comfortable ride,” PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said.

PAL commenced with its maiden Davao to Iloilo flight last Jan. 3, utilizing the modern 86-seater Dash-8.

The airline will also be introducing thrice weekly flights between Davao and Manado, Indonesia by March, where the 86-seater Dash 8  will again be utilized for the upcoming service.

PAL, the country’s only four-star global airline, has a network covering more than 30 domestic and 40 international destinations.

The flag carrier is ranked as the 30th Best Airline in the world, having recently been awarded the World’s Most Improved Airline honors for 2019 by Skytrax and the 4-Star Major Airline award from the US-based Airline Passenger Experience Association.
