PAL warns public against online ads, phishing sites

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has warned the public against a fake PAL advertisement circulating online that claims to give out plane tickets in exchange of answering several questions.

PAL in an advisory yesterday urged the netizens not to open the site, as doing so would compromise their personal data.

PAL said its information systems department has classified it as a phishing site designed to capture personal information.

“We warn individuals behind this scheme to desist from carrying out this illegal act. We are in coordination with authorities to address this matter,” PAL said.

According to the carrier, the fake advertisement is circulating online, luring people to reply to several questions in exchange for a chance to win plane tickets.

The fake advertisement, it said, bears a PAL logo with the phrase “Home in the Sky.”

“Please note that the official PAL logo carries the tagline ‘Heart of the Filipino’ and that all official advertisements of the airline are posted at www.philippineairlines.com and the PAL Facebook Page,” it said.

PAL is the country’s only four-star global airline.

It is ranked as the 30th Best Airline in the world, having been awarded the World’s Most Improved Airline honors for 2019 by Skytrax and the 4-Star Major Airline award from the US-based Airline Passenger Experience Association.

PAL has a network covering more than 30 domestic and 40 international destinations with a  fleet of 98 advanced-technology aircraft.
