Cavitex enhancements completed by Q2 2020

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.-unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) is looking to wrap up by the second quarter of next year ongoing enhancement works at the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), which will bring a better experience to motorists traversing the tollway.

CIC said the P300-million second phase enhancement works for CAVITEX is expected to be finished by May next year.

The second phase of the road enhancements includes the widening of bridges in Wawa, Las Piñas, and Parañaque.

“CIC has been investing on the upkeep and improvement of CAVITEX to prevent deterioration of the expressway and maintain its high-quality standards since we started our operations,” CIC president Bobby Bontia said.

Bontia earlier said the completion of the second phase would make more room for motorists plying CAVITEX, especially as traffic volume on the expressway continues to increase.

CIC completed in December last year the P800-million first phase enhancement works for CAVITEX.

Phase 1 involved the widening of the expressway by adding one lane on both directions, as well as construction of a flyover on the southbound lane on the intersection of Pacific Ave.

CAVITEX is part of MPTC’s portfolio, which also includes the concessions for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the NLEX Connector Road, the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu.

MPTC has earlier submitted a P92-billion unsolicited proposal to the Department of Public Works and Highways for the construction of an expressway linking NLEX and CAVITEX.

The NLEX-CAVITEX Port Expressway Link is a proposed 15-kilometer expressway with six lanes (2x3 configuration) combined elevated and tunnel expressway from NLEX Segment 10 up to Cavitex which will provide an ideal truck route directly linked to Manila Port Area.

It is divided into three sections which are C3 Road to Anda Circle (5.7 km), Connection from CAVITEX to Buendia Ave. (4.8 km), and Buendia Ave. to Anda Circle (4.6 km).

The project seeks to reduce truck traffic within its limited capacity road network and significantly contribute in the decongestion of the metropolis 24 hours a day.
