Philippines 2nd cheapest mobile data price per GB in AsPac — Globe

MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom Inc. said the Philippines has the second cheapest mobile internet price per gigabyte (GB) in the region, next only to India.

The Ayala-led telco said the mobile internet price per GB in the Philippines, using Globe prepaid mobile data pricing, registered as one of the lowest in Southeast Asia and selected Asia Pacific countries, including China and India.

Globe said the country remains data price friendly, especially in the prepaid segment where an overwhelming majority of the population are subscribed to.

According to the company, its mobile internet price per GB stood at $0.43 (P22.50), way below Singapore’s $3.20 (P168.42), Thailand’s $1.84 (P96.84), or even China’s average rate of $1.31 (P68.95) per GB.

The telco said its prepaid mobile internet price per GB is also lower compared to Malaysia’s $0.53 (P28.07) and Indonesia’s $1.33 (P70).

Overall, it said the Philippines is second only to India which offers the cheapest rate in the region at $0.23 (P12.04).

Globe said the price plans compared across the region are prepaid promos with seven days validity based on the websites of its top mobile network operators.

Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said almost all Globe prepaid users in the country are subscribed to promos, making data price affordable and beneficial to the consumers.

“With our customers’ surging demand for mobile data consumption, providing more economical data promos is more important than ever. We will continue to ramp up our network rollout, build more cell towers, and create more cost-effective promos to give our customers the best possible quality of experience,” Cu said.

Citing data from Digital 2019: Philippines by We Are Social, Globe said the Philippines has 76 million internet users, of which 71.4 million use the mobile phone to access the internet where majority are using mobile prepaid services.

Globe saw its mobile data traffic almost double in the first half, driven by data plans and promos, and the rising clamor for data-intensive activities such as online gaming, streaming, and on-demand video content.
