MANILA, Philippines — Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC)-unit NLEX Corp. and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are set to open this month the P62.7 million NLEX Balagtas northbound entry in Bulacan which will enable faster and more convenient travel to the north.

The 600-meter NLEX Balagtas northbound entry will provide direct access to motorists coming from Balagtas Interchange going to NLEX northbound, bypassing local roads and the Sta. Rita interchange in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

Officials of DPWH and NLEX conducted an inaugural drive-thru of the new northbound entry yesterday.

“The Balagtas northbound entry, which started construction early this year, is part of the government’s road network improvement plan aimed at easing traffic congestion and bringing more investments in Central Luzon,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.

“This new gateway to the north signifies Metro Pacific’s commitment to enhance countryside development and make travel easier and more comfortable for everyone,” MPTC president and CEO Rodrigo Franco said separately.

The Balagtas northbound entry is a joint project of the DPWH and NLEX.

The first phase, which was undertaken by DPWH, was completed last May for a total cost of P35.9 million.

Construction of the project’s P26.8 million second phase was completed last month by NLEX.

NLEX president and general manager Luigi Bautista said the new road seeks to improve mobility and productivity, especially for those coming from Balagtas and those using the Plaridel Bypass from Guiguinto, Plaridel, Bustos, and Baliwag.

Investors cite Bulacan as the next growth hub amid upcoming major infrastructure projects in the province. It is also instrumental in the thriving economy of Central Luzon, which remained one of the significant contributors to the country’s overall growth.

Aside from the NLEX Balagtas northbound entry project, a new Tambubong Interchange in Bocaue is also underway to enhance the Bulacan road network and help alleviate heavy traffic conditions at the Bocaue Interchange.

A southbound entry and northbound entry and exit toll plazas will be constructed at Brgy. Tambubong to serve as an alternate route for motorists bound for Sta. Maria Pandi, Bulacan and nearby towns.
