Megaworld to add 6 more townships

MANILA, Philippines — Megaworld, the Andrew Tan-led property developer, is set to launch six more townships this year until 2020,  bringing the company’s portfolio to 30.

The new developments will cover an expansive land area of around 2,000 hectares, Megaworld chief strategy officer Kevin Tan said in a briefing yesterday following the company’s 25th listing anniversary at the Philippine Stock Exchange.  

While Tan did not disclose the specific areas yet, Tan said five of the new townships and lifestyle communities would be in Luzon, while one would be in Mindanao. 

“Currently, we have a little over 4,000 hectares of both developed and developable land. By next year, we will increase our land ownership and landholding to more than 6,000 hectares as we continue to focus on our goal to expand to key growth areas in the provinces, help boost tourism, provide jobs, and further spur economic opportunities outside of Metro Manila,” he said. 

In choosing an area, Tan said the company looks at the growth potential such as economic growth drivers as well as the number of graduates.

He said Megaworld is able to create new industries when it develops a township. 

Moving forward, Tan said Megaworld wants to see more institutions and government offices in its townships.  

“We want to have many connectivities in our township. We want to have institutions such as museums and medical centers,” he added.

At present, Megaworld has 24 townships and lifestyle communities spread across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. 

Megaworld has nine in Metro Manila. These include Eastwood City, McKinley Hill, Forbes Town, McKinley West, Uptown Bonifacio, Newport City, Alabang West, Westside City and Arcovia City.

Outside Metro Manila but within the Luzon area, Megaworld has eight townships. These are in Capital Town Pampanga, Eastland Heights, Twin Lakes, Southwoods City, Suntrust Ecotown, Maple Grove, Hamptons Caliraya and Highland City.
