MANILA, Philippines — EasyCall Communications Philippines Inc. is embarking on a new strategic direction to become a data technology company.

EasyCall, a company which used to be the country’s top provider of pagers, said the move would require an initial investment of as much as P50 million which it intends to finance through internally generated cash.

In line with its new strategic direction, the company said it would also re-acquire 100 percent ownership of Easynet Communications Philippines Inc. through the purchase from Synetcom Philippines Inc. of its 40 percent stake, equivalent to 40,000 common shares, at an agreed price of P4 million.

EasyCall said the additional business lines as well as certain employee movement have received the green light from its board of directors.

EasyCall was originally registered as a telecommunications company initially engaged in the paging industry and later evolved to engage in contact center outsourcing business and information technology related business.

Acquired by Transnational Diversified Group in 2001, EasyCall shifted its direction following the onset of short message service and text messaging in the 2000s.

In 2015, the listed company launched Easynet, an IP broadband managed services over Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) in partnership with e-Serve and Synetcom.

One of the thrusts of Easynet is as a last mile solution targeting businesses not reached by fiber optic cables and to provide these customers the IP broadband through VSAT.

VSAT is a two-way satellite communications system that can transmit and receive data via remote terminals or hubs.

EasyCall’s existing products and services in the call center and internet businesses are carried out through its subsidiaries and affiliates.

e-Performax Contact Centers Corp. handles customer service, while EasyCall e-Services Inc. offers corporate DSL resellership, internet services, web business solutions and server co-location.
