MANILA, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corp. is in talks with at least eight customers for its recently formed subsidiary for solar rooftop development.

In a company report, AboitizPower said its unit Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables Inc. (APX) is looking for opportunities from existing relationships and collaboration with other business units within the group.

APX is the group’s new subsidiary focused on solar rooftop developments to further expand its renewable energy portfolio under its Cleanergy brand.

“At least eight more customers in various locations across Luzon and Visayas have agreed to terms with APX for the installation of rooftop solar,” AboitizPower said.

“These are in the process of obtaining regulatory permits and contracting and are expected to be announced once these processes are completed,” it said.

Initially, APX started with projects within the Aboitiz franchise.

In February 2018, APX installed a 100-kilowatt (kw) solar rooftop on the Aboitiz Corporate Office in Banilad, Cebu.

It has since delivered over 81,000 kilowatt-hours of power, representing significant savings for the Cebu Praedia Development Corp., owner of the facility.

The data on generated savings will be used to attract more customers to install solar rooftops.

“It is expected that applying performance data analytics will allow APX to provide a robust view of the impact of distributed rooftop solar to customers’ energy service experience,” AboitizPower said.

APX also struck an agreement with AboitizLand Inc. to put up a 1.5-megawatt (MW) rooftop solar solution for The Outlets in Lipa at the Lima Technology Center.

“APX expects this project to supply revenue for the next 20 years, starting January,” it said.

AboitizPower has a wide portfolio of renewable energy plants under Cleanergy including its geothermal, run-of-river hydro, and large hydropower facilities all over the country, helping energize economic opportunities in its host communities while further advancing its business portfolio.

The firm first entered the solar power market in 2016 with its 69-MW peak (MWp) San Carlos Sun (Sacasun) project in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

AboitizPower has investments in various thermal and renewable power generating facilities with a total net sellable capacity of 3,350 MW with its partners. Its Cleanergy brand amounts to 1,272 MW, 39 percent of its total net sellable capacity.

The company is pushing for a balanced mix strategy—maximizing Cleanergy while taking advantage of the reliability and cost-efficiency of thermal power plants.

AboitizPower also owns distribution utilities that operate in high-growth areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, including the second and third largest private utilities in the country.
