MANILA, Philippines — On a scale of one to 10, Filipino professionals’ satisfaction with their salaries is at 7.1, according to the 2018 survey by UK-based professional recruitment consultancy Robert Walters Plc. that also showed continued growth in salaries in major industries.

In the 20th edition of its annual poll of Filipino job movers across five industries, Robert Walters said 93 percent of professionals in the country feel confident about job opportunities in their own sector.

Salaries continued to rise in 2018, the survey also found, with Filipino professionals receiving average pay hikes of 20 percent when they move to another job. Senior-level candidates for niche roles gained wage increases of 40 percent this year.

On the other hand, salary growth for job movers is projected to average 20 percent in 2019, unchanged from this year. Against this backdrop, 42 percent of Filipino professionals expect salary increments of more than 10 percent next year.

“In 2019, hiring managers may encounter challenges finding professionals with strong technical skills in digital as well as risk and compliance,” Robert Walters said in its report.

"There is still a scarcity of top professionals above 10 years’ experience due to relatively young market in the Philippines,” it added.

Domestic recruitment activities were “active” this year and will remain strong next year, the survey said, citing “positive economic conditions” due to influx of foreign companies and robust demand.

Across sectors, IT professionals expect greater salary increments of 30 to 60 percent next year.

In the same report, Robert Walters also found that some of the Duterte administration’s flagship programs will likely stimulate hiring activities in certain industries.

The tax reform law is seen boosting demand for talents with experience in taxation and audit, said Monty Sujanani, country manager at Robert Walters Philippines.

Meanwhile, the construction boom stoked by the state’s ambitious infrastructure program is expected to create a “space” for sales and marketing professionals, Sujanani added. — Ian Nicolas Cigaral
