DOF wants online orientation program for new employees

Mary Grace Padin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Finance (DOF) is considering offering online training programs for its new employees.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez told Undersecretary Gil Beltran to study the possibility of crafting an online orientation program for new employees of the DOF and its attached agencies.

Dominguez said the orientation program could introduce new employees on relevant laws and rules and regulations, among others.

Beltran, for his part, said the DOF has already recorded some basic courses being offered by the Philippine Tax Academy (PTA), which can be uploaded online.

The first of its kind in the country, PTA was established to provide continuing training to the country’s revenue collectors and administrators to improve their competitiveness, and also sharpen their commitment to their profession and raise their ethical standards.

The establishment of the PTA is in compliance with Republic Act 10143, which was signed almost seven years ago. PTA should serve as the nation’s learning institution for tax collectors and administrators from the government and selected applicants from the private sectors.

Dominguez earlier said the DOF was exploring a possible partnership with Huawei Philippines to provide online training courses to local government treasurers through the PTA.

To achieve this goal, Beltran earlier said the school has already submitted to the Department of Information and Communications Technology its three-year Strategic Information Plan.

Huawei Philippines officials also said the company is ready to offer its information and communications technology solutions and organize workshops to assist the DOF and its attached agencies in migrating to an online environment.

The company also plans to introduce its cloud service, which will further help reduce costs for businesses in terms of investing in computer hardware and software.
