Taxpayers’ guide vs excessive LGU taxation

MANILA, Philippines — While the local government has the power to impose tax on its constituents, it is equally important that citizens understand their rights and remedies in case of wrongful or unjust imposition of taxes. The Center for Global Best Practices invites landowners and administrators, businesses, accountants, lawyers and even LGU officials in a one-day pioneering program titled, “Local Government and Real Estate Taxation,” on Aug. 17, 2018 at the Manila Marriott Hotel, Pasay City.

The lecture will cover two major parts, namely: Local government taxation, covering the rules, extent, and restrictions on the imposition of license taxes, fees, penalties by LGUs in the provinces, cities, municipalities and barangays; and Real property taxation – a system of levy on real property imposed on a country-wide basis with discussions including special levies, property tax exemption, remedies of taxpayers, procedures in protesting real property tax assessments, and more. 

This special program will feature Atty. Nicasio Cabaneiro, partner in-charge of the tax programs at the Center for Global Best Practices.  He is a recognized authority in the practice of taxation and commercial law with a track record and solid reputation of saving his clients across various industries billions in taxes. He has over 40 years of teaching experience and 25 years with Bank of Philippine Islands, capping his career as its vice-president and head of the Legal Services Division.
