TV ratings contested anew by ABS-CBN, GMA

MANILA, Philippines — TV network giants ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc. yesterday claimed respective leadership in nationwide ratings for the month of June.

In a statement, ABS-CBN said it emerged as the TV network of choice for more Filipino viewers as it recorded an average audience share of 45 percent last month compared to GMA’s 32 percent, based on data from Kantar Media which uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN said it remained king in Metro Manila, where it scored an average audience share of 43 percent against GMA’s 29 percent.

In Total Luzon, the network said it got 41 percent share against GMA’s 36 percent. while in Total Visayas and Total Mindanao, it garnered market share dominance of 54 percent and 53 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, GMA said it posted a total day people audience share average of 41.6 percent in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 38.3 percent.

GMA said Nielsen data is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide compared to Kantar Media, with approximately 900 more homes surveyed in Total Urban and Rural Philippines.

In the morning block, GMA said it recorded a 37.2 percent people audience share versus ABS-CBN’s 37 percent.

The network said its strong showing continued in the afternoon block and the evening block with 42.9 percent and 42.6 percent shares, respectively.
