CebuPac sets new passenger record

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Budget carrier Cebu Pacific has set a new record as it flew 65,298 passengers in a single day.

Cebu Pacific said it achieved the new milestone, along with subsidiary Cebgo, last May 7.

The passengers were served through 395 flights, comprised of 302 Cebu Pacific and 93 Cebgo flights.

Cebu Pacific’s previous record was set on Dec. 27, 2016 when it carried 64,684 passengers.

“As summer peak season reaches full swing, we are seeing more tourists going on vacation. The growth in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE)sector is also driving passenger traffic. As passenger traffic continues to grow, we are committed to improving our service to make flying with Cebu Pacific more pleasant, safer and more efficient,” Paterno Mantaring, Cebu Pacific vice president for corporate affairs said.

As of the first quarter, Cebu Pacific kept its lead in passenger traffic as it had a market share of 53 percent.

Cebu Pacific flew a total of 4.9 million passengers in the first quarter, 1.3 percent higher year-on-year, as it expanded outside of Metro Manila.

Direct services launched from Manila to Siargao and Batanes helped sustain the growth in Cebu passenger volume, as well as the double-digit growth in short-haul international routes, particularly Bali in Indonesia, Nagoya and Narita in Japan, Incheon in South Korea, Xiamen in China and Bangkok in Thailand.

Cebu Pacific currently has flights out of seven hubs in the country such as Manila, Clark, Iloilo, Kalibo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro (Laguindingan) and Davao, to 37 domestic and 26 international destinations across Asia, Australia, the Middle East and US.
