DoTr plans to establish a Philippines Railway Institute

Catherine Talavera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) plans to establish a Philippine Railway Institute (PRI), to train human resource needed for the construction of the country’s railway projects.

The DOTr has signed records of discussion with the Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) for the creation of the PRI that will support the construction of upcoming railway projects in the country.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said there is a lack of proper personnel who are trained and have sufficient knowledge in the process needed by the construction of railway projects.

He said the Metro Tokyo Group from Japan will assist the DOTr in building the PRI.

Tugade said the establishment of the PRI would allow the country to have an inventory of equipment maintenance and training on hand.

DOTr Undersecretary Timothy John Batan said each railway project would require the employment of around 50 people with various skill sets needed for the project.

Among the human resources needed for these railway projects are architects, engineers, procurement experts, etc.
