MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Airlines (PAL) is opening a new Mabuhay Lounge in the second quarter as part of its effort to improve passenger service and achieve a five-star rating.

In a statement yesterday PAL said it is bringing the passenger lounge experience to the next level through the opening of the new Mabuhay Lounge.

PAL has started the construction of the two-level International Mabuhay Lounge at Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The new facility will showcase Filipino food and have world class amenities including private work stations, a meeting room, sleeping pods, showers and changing rooms, and a massage room.

“The goal is to offer top-notch service and comfort that shall redefine the experience of PAL’s Business Class Passengers and Frequent Flyers,” PAL said.

At present, PAL offers long-haul flights such as non-stop services from Manila to Toronto in Canada, London in the United Kingdom, Auckland in New Zealand, Vancouver in Canada, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the US, Honolulu in Hawaii and Melbourne in Australia.

PAL also operates daily non-stops to Sydney and four weekly services to New York via Vancouver.

Earlier, PAL said it is looking to start non-stop services to Brisbane in Australia, New York, as well as India within the year.

At present, the carrier has a three-star rating from aviation consultancy Skytrax.

It is looking to get four stars this year.
