MANILA, Philippines – Western Union has entered into a partnership with ABS-CBN Global Corp. to offer its customers free access to The Filipino Channel (TFC).

Patricia Riingen, senior vice president for South East Asia and Oceania of Western Union said in a press conference after the signing of the memorandum of agreement for the partnership yesterday, the cooperation would involve providing every customer that sends money to the Philippines through Western Union free access to TFC.tv Lite Package for 30 days as well as to 10 selected movies of John Lloyd Cruz who is currently the payments service firm’s celebrity endorser.

Western Union decided to partner with ABS-CBN Global given the potential benefits of the promotion not only to its customers but also in supporting the growth of its business.

Through the partnership, Riingen said Western Union customers can stay connected to their roots by being able to access local entertainment.

“With any promotion we implement, we expect it will improve the business. We are looking at it two fronts. One is the ability of the promotion to be able to attract a new set of customers and also, we are looking at it as a retention strategy…If a customer likes it on the first month they avail of the effort, hopefully we can get them to come back and utilize,” she said.

ABS-CBN Global likewise expects to benefit from the partnership by being able to promote its offering to overseas Filipinos.

“Our collaboration with Western Union will give more consumers who send money back home to the Philippines an opportunity to remain updated with news and entertainment programs from our homeland through our TFC programs, specifically via TFC.tv,” ABS-CBN Global chief operating officer Raffy Lopez said.
