Kim Henares looks forward to June 30 retirement

MANILA, Philippines – Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares said she is looking forward to her impending retirement on June 30.

A radio report said Henares looks forward to returning to her private life and leave government service as President Benigno Aquino III steps down on June.

Henares said she is just looking forward to resting after her service and she has no plans yet when asked if she is willing to return to BIR if requested by the next elected president.

“Please don’t ask presidential candidates if they will retain me. I’m looking forward to retiring on June 30,” Henares was quoted in a report.

“Let’s cross the bridge when we get there. I have no answer for you. Remember, I never say never. But the default mode is on June 30, we step down, and I’m looking forward to resting,” she added.

A radio report said Henares is mulling studying physical therapy or taking an online course.

Henares also gave her well wishes to the future BIR commissioner.

“I wish the next BIR commissioner the best of luck,” Henares said.

She also shrugged off the statements of presidential candidates Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Grace Poe that she will be the first Cabinet member to be ousted if they are elected. She said she is not affected by these pronouncements.

Henares admitted that Aquino invited her to join the administration’s senatorial slate but she declined to veer away from issues.

“There were invitations to run for the Senate, but I turned them down because I don’t want to be involved in all these election brouhaha. Despite that, I’m still being dragged into it,” the commissioner said. - Rosette Adel
