MANILA, Philippines - Hawaii’s top burger joint Teddy’s Bigger Burgers plans to open a  total of nine outlets in the Philippines by next year.

Richard Stula, co-founder of Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, said in a briefing  at the opening of the first outlet in the Philippines yesterday, the  plan is to open nine outlets from this year until next year.

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers is entering the Philippine market through an  international franchise held by Sumo Burger Global Inc..

Sumo Burger Global has a diverse restaurant portfolio including Sumo  Sam, Banzai, Akira, John and Yoko, Wolf and Fox, and Marciano’s.

“Their deal is to have nine corporate stores on

their own,” Stula said.

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers brand manager Khaezel Espiritu said   three outlets are expected to be opened by yearend.

After the first outlet in Greenbelt 3 in Makati City, Espiritu said, Teddy’s  Bigger Burgers will open a store in Shangri-La Plaza in  Mandaluyong City in October, and another one in Eastwood City in  Quezon City in November.

“Early next year, we will have a Fort branch and another in Resorts  World,” he said. Stula said Teddy’s Bigger Burgers decided to enter the Philippine  market after the founders were approached by Raymund Magdaluyo, one of  the co-owners of Sumo Burger Global.

“Raymond came across us in Hawaii. We just basically entertained  people that loved Teddys. That was the first time we considered the  Philippines. Hawaii has many Filipinos so we saw connection there,” he  said. Teddy’s Bigger Burgers started in 1998 in Hawaii.

Apart from Hawaii and the Philippines, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers has  presence in mainland US and Japan.

Among its signature offerings are Teddy’s original burger made of 100  percent US ground chuck patty with special burger seasoning, Teri  Burger basted with sweet Teriyaki sauce and Western Burger which is  the original burger served with crispy hash brown, onion rings,  cheddar cheese, bacon and barbecue sauce.
