P1.7-B NLEX Segment 9 nears completion

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC) is nearing the completion of Segment 9 of the NLEX Harbor Link, a 2.4-km NLEX expansion road seen to provide an alternative going to C3 and the Port Area.

Segment 9 will connect the NLEX Mindanao Ave. Link to MacArthur Hi-Way. The project, with an estimated cost of P1.7 billion, began construction in May 2013 and is expected to be completed middle of 2014.

It will reduce travel time by half between Camanava and Central and North Luzon, ease traffic at the Valenzuela interchange and help decongest Bonifacio Avenue and the Cubao-Monumento stretch of EDSA.

â€œSegment 9 will enable motorists to gain significant savings in vehicle operating costs and travel time. There will also be lower incidence of road accidents due to better road pavement and traffic management,” MNTC president and CEO Rodrigo E. Franco said.

Since construction began in May, four of seven reinforced concrete box culverts have already been built. The construction of the Santolan vehicular overpass and two footbridges are currently in full blast. The project will also include another vehicular overpass at Marcelo Street.

Similar to the NLEX Mindanao Avenue Link, Segment 9 will be fully equipped with toll collection system, along with other vital service and safety amenities such as traffic management and telecommunication systems, median lighting, lane markings, signage, emergency call boxes and lay-bays.
