MANILA, Philippines — Ortigas & Co., a top Filipino real estate development firm, has won international recognition for its efforts to promote an active lifestyle among Metro Manila’s urban dwellers through its groundbreaking project, The Bike Playground.

The Bike Playground, the only bike park in the country, has won a Bronze at the Stevie Awards for Excellence in Innovation in Consumer Product and Service Industries, not only for its world-class facility that promotes cycling, but also for giving people an opportunity to enjoy the multiple benefits of an active lifestyle.

It is conveniently located within Circulo Verde, a 10-hectare master-planned community in Quezon City — well within easy reach of residents within the metropolis.

Geared primarily toward the biking community, it is the Philippines’ first signature Pump Park built by Velosolutions, which is headed by international designer and mountain bike luminary Claudio Calouri.

It houses the country’s first indoor asphalt pump track, as well as an outdoor trail and a kids’ track for all skill levels and types of bicycles. To promote an active lifestyle among all ages and even to non-bikers, the Bike Playground offers bike rentals and assistance from highly skilled and experienced coaches for a well-rounded service.

Beyond its amenities, The Bike Playground has also brought global sporting events into the country, offering bike enthusiasts world-class experiences to join or aspire for. These include the Red Bull Pump Track World Championships qualifier, undertaken in cities around the world ahead of the finals held in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. No less than Dutch professional mountain biker Joost Wichman, winner of the 2013 UCI Championship and a celebrity in the biking world, was the Race Manager at the Philippine event.

In addition, French Pump Track And World Champion Adrien Loron was a special guest and held special lessons during the park’s grand launch.

“Ortigas & Co. has long recognized the dearth of open spaces in the city, keeping people from enjoying the benefits of an active lifestyle. In conceptualizing The Bike Playground, we wanted to create a destination where people can bike freely or competitively, as well as enjoy physical, health and wellness activities with their friends and family,” said Jimmy Ysmael, president and CEO of Ortigas & Company.

“We’re very happy to note that in just one year of operations, people are embracing a life of activity and wellness through The Bike Playground. This Stevie Award is a testament to our commitment to offer solutions that meet Filipinos’ evolving lifestyles,” he added.

Indeed, The Bike Playground has become the benchmark for world-class biking and outdoor sports in the Philippines, and will continue to do so in the coming years.
