Marcos Jr. sinuspindi 2023 PhilHealth rate hike kontra 'high inflation'
MANILA, Philippines — Sinuspindi muna ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang mas mataas na kontribusyon sa PhilHealth premium mula 4% patungong 4.5% dahil sa bilis ng pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin sa ilalim ng kanyang administrasyon.
Ito ang ibinahagi Office of the President sa pamamagitan ng Office of the Press Secretary, Lunes, patungkol sa nakatakdang premium rate hike ngayong 2023.
Kasama rin sa pinasususpindi ang pagtataas ng income ceiling mula P80,000 patungong P90,000 para sa bagong calendar year alinsunod sa Section 10 ng Republic Act 11223 o "Universal Health Care Act."
"In light of the prevailing socioeconomic challenges brought about by the COVID-19m pandemic, and to provide financial relief to our countrymen amidst these difficult times, please be informed that the President has directed the PhilHealth to suspend the abovementioned increase in premium rate and income ceiling for CY 2023, subject to applicable laws, rules and regulations," ayon sa memorandum na nilagdaan ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin sa utos ni Marcos.

Kung natuloy, ang mga miyembrong kumikita ng P10,000 pababa buwan-buwan ay kakailanganin magbayad ng P450 kaysa sa kasalukuyang P400. Ang kontribusyon ay pinaghahatian ng employer at employee.
Taong 2021 lang nang i-defer ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang dagdag na singil sa buwanang premium payments sa Philhealth members dahil din sa epekto ng COVID-19 pandemic, lalo na't magiging dagdag pasanin pa raw ito sa publiko.
Dahil sa 'inflation'; UHC makikinabang sana
Paliwanag ng Department of Health at PhilHealth, nasabihan na sila patungkol sa desisyon ni Bongbong. Ito'y kahit gagamitin daw sana ang dagdag na premium contributions para tugunan ang pagpapalawig ng mga benepisyo sa Universal Health Care Law.
"The DOH and PhilHealth recognize the suspension is intended to help our kababayans cope with the increasing prices of commodities caused by inflation. Such moratorium in increases in premium contributions have been done in years 2020 and 2021," sabi ng DOH at PhilHealth kagabi.
"This was in accordance with directives of the Office of the President, and in recognition of the effects of the pandemic during those years."
Nobyembre lang nang sumirit sa 8% ang inflation rate, ang pinakamabilis na pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin sa Pilipinas sa mahigit 14 taon.
