Oral, nasal COVID-19 vaccines target ng WHO

MANILA, Philippines — Target ng World Health Organization (WHO) na gumamit na ng ‘second generation COVID-19 vaccines’ na maaaring ­maging ‘oral’ o kaya ay ‘nasal sprays’.

Sinabi ni Soumya Swaminathan ng WHO, na mas madaling i-deliber ang naturang uri ng mga bakuna at maaari pang gamitin ng pasyente ng walang medical worker.

May 129 iba’t ibang kandidato na bakuna na nakapagsagawa na ng ‘clinical trials’ sa tao habang may 194 pa ang kasalukuyang dinidebelop sa mga laboratoryo.

“They’re still in ­development. I’m sure some of them will prove to be very safe and efficacious and others may not,” ayon kay Swaminathan.

Kung hindi naman umano magagamit kontra sa COVID-19 ang ibang bakuna, maaaring ma­gamit ang mga ito sa iba pang inpeksyon na maaa­ring lumabas sa hinaharap.

Sa kasalukuyan, may pitong bakuna lamang na binigyan ng ‘emergency use authorization’ ang WHO.  Ito ay ang Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Sinopharm, Sinovac at ang Bharat Biotech.
