MANILA, Philippines — Pinarangalan ng isang award-winning body ngayong taon ang isang kontrobersyal na pigura sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas pagdating sa larangan ng relasyong panlabas.

Kasama si dating first lady Imelda Marcos sa dalawang inanunsyo ng Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU) at Embahada ng Tsina para sa kauna-unahang "Hall of Fame" awards ng Award for Promoting Philippines-China Understanding (APPCU) ngayong 2021, bagay na inanunsyo nitong Lunes.

"As a novel award-winning body, APPCU pays special tribute to Filipinos who have made efforts through time in strengthening friendly ties and promoting mutual understanding between the Philippines and China using their respective advocacies and expertise in the various fields and disciplines of Mass Media and Public Service; Trade and Commerce; and Arts, Culture and the Sciences," ayon sa pahayag ng APCU.

"The Hall of Fame category, which acknowledges the prestige and stature of the individual, and the immense effort of work the individual, and the immense effort of work the individual has done over time as may be evidenced by the extend of reach, impact and reception of the work(s) by communities and societies."

Babahagian naman ng prize money ang mga awardees sa "outstanding contributions" at "major contributions" categories. Pararangalan sila sa isang seremonyas sa ika-6 ng Agosto.

Imelda Marcos: Guilty sa 7 counts ng graft

Binibigyan man ngayon ng award, Nobyembre 2018 nang mapagdesisyunan ng Sandiganbayan Fifth Division na "guilty beyond reasonable doubt" si Marcos para sa pitong counts ng graft.

Ang biyuda ng dating diktador na si Ferdinand Marcos Sr. ay una nang nasintensyahan ng hanggang 77 taong pagkakakulong. Kaugnay nito, habambuhay na rin diskwalipikado para sa pagtakbo sa public office ang dating Ilocos Norte lawmaker.

Sa kabila nito, nakapagpiyansa ng P300,000 si Marcos matapos ang conviction para makakuha ng pansamantalang kalayaan. 'Di malaon, pinayagan din siya ng Sandiganbayan na iapela ang kanyang graft conviction sa Korte Suprema.

Sa kabila ng naturang conviction, sinabi ni Danilo dela Fuente, SELDA vice chairperson, na wala nang report pagdating sa proceedings at desisyon sa kanyang apela.

Si Imelda ay asawa ni Ferdinand na tanyag para sa kanyang sari-saring human rights violations noong Martial Law. Sa panahong iyon noong 1972 hanggang 1981, 70,000 ang ipinakulong ng diktadura, maliban para sa 34,000 tinorture at 3,200 pinatay, ayon sa Amnesty International.
