IBP boto kay Carpio bilang susunod na CJ

MANILA, Philippines – Inendorso ng Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) kahapon ang nominasyon ni acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio para sa pinakamataas ng puwesto sa hudikatura para punan ang nabakanteng pwesto ni Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Napili ng IBP si Carpio dahil na rin sa kaniyang tagal sa Korte Suprema, kung saan siya na ang pinakamatagal.

“Associate Justice Antonio Carpio is the most senior of all the incumbent justices in the Supreme Court and is most qualified to lead and manage the Supreme Court and the entire Philippine judiciary,” sinabi ng IBP  sa kanilang pahayag na inilabas ng kanilang national president na si Abdiel Dan Fajardo.

Sinabi ng IBP kay Pangulong Duterte na igalang ang seniority sa hudikatura matapos nila ikondena ang pagpapatalsik kay Sereno.

“We are faced with the reality that the Supreme Court itself has set into motion the appointment of chief justice vice (Maria) Lourdes Sereno. We thus support the return to, and the recognition of the wisdom, of the long-standing tradition of seniority in the appointment to the highest office of the judiciary, the Supreme Court chief justice,” giit ng grupo.

SI Carpio, kasama ng apat pang senior justices ng SC, ay awtomatikong nominado sa posisyon ng chief justice. Kasama niya sila Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco Jr., Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, Diosdado Peralta at Lucas Bersamin.

Sa kabila nito ay nauna nang sinabi ni Carpio na hindi siya interesado sa pwesto lalo na’t tutol sila sa paraang ng pagkakatanggal kay Sereno.

Samantala, nakatakda nang magretiro sina Velasco at De Castro sa Agosto at Oktubre nitong taon.

Ang ikaapat na miyembro na may senior rank ay si Peralta na may apat na taon pa bago magretiro.

Para naman kay Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, dapat tanggihan ng tatlo sa limang nominadong SC justices ang posisyon para sa delicadeza dahil bumoto sila na tanggalin si Sereno sa posisyon.

“They must not profit from their controversial adverse decision against Sereno,” ani Lagman, tinutukoy sina De Castro, Peralta and Bersamin.
