CHR handang tumulong sa ICC probe sa drug war ni Digong

MANILA, Philippines — Nakahandang umayuda ang Commission on Human Rights (CHR) sa imbestigasyon ng International Criminal Court (ICC) sa madugong kampanya laban sa ilegal na droga ng gobyerno.

Sa mensahe ni CHR chair Luis Gascon sa The STAR na bagama’t wala pa namang hinihinging tulong ang ICC ay naghihintay lamang anila na lapitan sila.

“We are, of course, always ready, willing and able to assist the ICC should we be requested to do so,” pahayag ni Gascon.

“As a party to the Rome Statute, the entire government, particularly the law enforcement and justice institutions, is under an obligation to assist the ICC in all ways possible,” dagdag niya patukoy sa 1998 treaty na bumuo sa ICC.

Nitong nakaraang linggo ay inihayag ni ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda na sisilipin niya ang drug war ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Dahil dito ay hinimok ni Gascon ang gobyerno na makipagtulungan sa imbestigasyon.

“In particular, we hope the authorities of our police and justice department will provide all relevant information for the successful conduct by the ICC of its preliminary examination,” patuloy ng CHR chair.

Ilang beses nang binatikos ng CHR ang gobyerno dahil sa kawalan ng hustisya para sa mga namatay matapos umanong “manlaban” sa mga pulis.
