CEBU, Philippines — Everything is already in place for the 2nd Hyundai Cup dubbed as Champions' League on March 25-27 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Fr. Julian Hernando athletic field in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Six teams will slug it out for supremacy led by the defending champion SHS-Ateneo.

The other contenders are Manila’s Great Oak Manor under coach Darren Hartmann, Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA), Paref-Springdale, Don Bosco Technical College and Don Bosco Boys Home.

Aside from the change of the age-bracket from Under-15 to U16, a new format will be applied this time.

The elimination round will follow a single-round robin system, with the top two teams automatically fighting it our for the championship.

Before the final battle, Hartmann along with former Little Azkals coach Oliver Colina and the rest of the coaches involved  will hold a clinic for aspiring booters aged eight to 12 years old. It will be limited though to only 80 kids.

Right after the championship, there will be a friendly match between the Hyundai All-Stars and the Palarong Pambansa-bound Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) men's football team.

Meanwhile, the organizers are planning to hold a pocket tournament for Hyundai’s branches around the Visayas and Mindanao region with the best team from each area to play in the 'best-of-the-best' here in Cebu.

Being the host, Cebu will no longer have an elimination as it will be given three outright slots for the finals. (FREEMAN)
