E-bike driver surrenders for death of wife’s fling

Romeo Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  An e-bike driver turned himself over to the Talisay City police after owning up to hitting a hard object on another e-bike driver whom he suspected to be his wife’s paramour at Bascon Street, Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City last Wednesday morning.

The police identified the suspect as Julieto Jaranilla, a neighbor of the victim, Germelino Callao, 43.

Initial investigation conducted by Police Staff Sergeant Noel Timagos revealed that the victim and the suspect’s wife, Melinda Jaranilla, were allegedly having an illicit affair for four months already.

After learning of their affair, Julieto reportedly had been quietly observing the two since then.

Last Wednesday, when the suspect was about to go out for his e-bike, he saw his wife and the victim going out from the victim’s residence carrying a backpack and along with their five-year-old son.

Upon noticing the two with their son, Julieto chased them and when they reached the old Barangay Hall of Barangay Dumlog, he got past the victim and struck him with a metal stick hitting the victim in the back.

They then engaged further into a fistfight.

When he noticed his wife eluding with their kid on an e-bike, he pursued his wife leaving Callao, but the victim reportedly followed them.

Julieto then only heard that the victim had suddenly collapsed.

Members of the Talisay Rescue Emergency Assistance Team (TREAT) led by John Mark Fernandez arrived and tried to revive the victim but failed.  They suspect that the victim could have suffered from a cardiac arrest during the incident.

The authorities also noticed bruises in Callao’s body.

Timagos said that jealousy (love triangle) was the motive in the incident.

The Talisay City Police had requested for a formal autopsy examination to be conducted on Callao’s body to determine the cause of his death.

The suspect, on the other hand, is now currently detained at the Talisay City Detention Facility. — GAN (FREEMAN)
