Alcoseba proposes more bike racks at City Hall
“This representation noticed two bike racks at the Plaza Sugbu, thus Cebu City government should provide appropriate bike racks or spaces for the safekeep of bicycles or these alternative modes of transport within the premises of the Cebu City Hall including its other departments within the City of Cebu,” Alcoseba said.

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council has requested the Office of the Mayor to provide enough and appropriate spaces or bike racks for some City Hall employees who opted to use an environment-friendly mode of transport— bicycles.

These spaces could also be used by clients transacting business at the City Hall, as well as other city government departments.

Councilor Raul Alcoseba sponsored a resolution regarding the matter which was approved by the City Council.

Alcoseba said the city government should support and encourage its employees and clients to use bicycles or other environment-friendly modes of transport by providing enough space for its safekeeping and security.

He said due to the pandemic, many city residents are using bicycles as an alternative mode of transport to keep their distance from other persons or groups of persons to avoid contracting COVID-19.

Last September 2020, the city government, through the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), started painting the bike lanes green as part of the efforts to fulfill its promise-- the establishment of bike lanes in its streets.

This February, bike lanes were already established on some streets in the downtown area.

The bike lanes are based on the route provided by the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO). — GMR (FREEMAN)
