Chinese smartdevice manufacturer Xiaomi made waves over the weekend in unveiling the brand’s first ever 108-megapixel camera-equipped phone.

Dubbed the “CC9 Pro,” the model comes with the new Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor which Xiaomi developed with Samsung.

Its primary imaging setup consists of five camera lenses: a 108-megapixel wide angle lens, a 20-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, a 12-megapixel lens intended for portraits, a 5-megapixel telephoto lens (with a 5x optical zoom factor) and a 2-megapixel macro lens intended for close-up shots.

Completing its range of imaging hardware is a 32-megapixel front-facing camera that’s housed in a teardrop-shaped notch.

Powering the device is a robust Snapdragon 730 processor by Qualcomm, and topping the unit is a 6.47-inch AMOLED display that comes with a built-in fingerprint sensor.

In terms of storage-RAM variants, the “CC9 Pro” has three: a version which touts a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage rating, an upgraded version that comes with an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage rating, and a “premium edition” that combines 8 gigs of RAM with 256 gigs of storage. The premium edition also highlights an “8P Lens System” which is essentially a step-up over the unit’s regular 5-camera setup.

The unit has been available in China since last week, and it is still unclear when it will go on retail in other markets. More information on the phone is hosted on Xiaomi’s official online channels.
