Gardo Versoza hopes gov’t can aid cinema industry

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

The planned opening of cinemas on February 15 did not push through as Metro Manila mayors decided to reschedule it to March 15 since there are still other considerations on the safety guidelines.

Gardo Versoza believes the government should help the entertainment industry and moviegoers once cinemas open again.

“It is my hope that the government can provide assistance in whatever form. Watching movies is a way to relax and make people happy during this time,” said Gardo at the presscon of “Ayuda Babes” from Saranggola Media Productions.

The entertainment business has been severely affected since the pandemic struck last year. Cinemas and live entertainment venues in the country have remained closed. The prospect of cinemas opening is seen by many as one step back to normalcy.

Gardo hopes there will be no additional fees asked from audiences who will troop back to theaters. “If the government can do something to lower the cost of admission that would ease the burden on the people. We hope they can come up with guidelines and health protocols for everyone’s safety,” he said.

Gardo is playing a gay barangay chairman in “Ayuda Babes” which will be streamed on iWantTFC and Ktx.PH starting March 5.

He loves gay roles and enjoyed the company of the gay cast in this film directed by Joven Tan.

“I was probably gay in my past life that’s why I enjoyed the company of my co-actors,” said Gardo whose videos in Tiktok have gained so much views.

“I feel that gay roles are very colorful. You may not necessarily portray drama but there’s drama in it. It’s fun and sometimes there is action as well.”

Also in the cast of “Ayuda Babes” are Joey Paras, Iyah Mina, Juliana Parizcova Segovia, Negi, Brenda Mage, Petite Brockovich, Berni Batin and Ate Gay.

We are glad to know that award-winning actor Roderick Paulate has started shooting for “Mudrasta,” his first film project under TREX Entertainment Productions.

Scheduled to be shot for 15 days, the movie just completed seven days of filming. It features Carmi Martin, Tonton Gutierrez and Ms. Celia Rodriguez in important roles.

TREX Entertainment is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Kuya Dick’s comeback is worth the long wait.

Directed by Julius Alfonso, the script was written by Joni Montanos.

According to Sir Rex Tiri, it is a big honor for his humble film outfit that Roderick agreed to do “Mudrasta, “ which was supposed to start filming last year but the pandemic delayed it.

The role was tailormade for Kuya Dick and had he not accepted it, Sir Rex said he would have been very disappointed.

Even if the filming was delayed, Kuya Dick declined other film and TV show offers, making good on his promise to concentrate first on “Mudrasta.”

It is a dream come true for Direk Julius to direct Kuya Dick, who he considers a showbiz icon.

“I am a big fan of Kuya Dick and it’s both a surreal and real moment to be face to face with him on set. This project is a labor of love,” Direk Julius said.
