BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS - Romelinda Garces - The Freeman

There are many things that Mandaue City has taken pride of. It has contaminated me really. Being a corporate citizen of Mandaue City for the past 20 or so years has made me feel really part of this city and I am so proud of it.

It must be the quiet charm of the Mandauehanons that has endeared them to me. They are simple and astute. Very “community” in their way of life. Pragmatic and dynamic.

Recently the city has embarked on what business may find to be a dream come true. They have set up their business processes and licensing system through an online application that reduces the tedious lines and of seeking for a business permit into three basic steps.

The launching of the eBusiness Process and Licensing System was done last December 2, with Dir. Leo Cipriano Urbiztondo of the DICT Government Digital Transformation Bureau, Atty. Melanie Malaya, president of the National Association of Business Permits and Licensing Officers, Dir. Jeremiah Belgica of the Anti-Red Tape Authority and Secretary Gregorio Honasan of the Department of Information and Communication, Atty. LessandroMaraon of the Office of the Secretary for the Visayas and Steven Yu, president of Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mayor Jonas Cortes, whose enthusiasm and commitment to his city is evident in the energy he displays as he roams around in spite of the pandemic, finds this move to be both effective in speeding up business processes as well as protecting the citizens through being able to access and continue their business processing without physical contact in this time.

Atty. August Lizer Malate, who heads the Business Process and Licensing Office is among the dynamic shapers of the city who help give form to the vision of Mayor Jonas Cortes in setting up improvements in the city.  Atty. Malate started his quest in digitalizing the system of Mandaue City as early as May but made the ground work earlier than that in partnership with the business community and the other members of the Local Government Unit and national government agencies.

For now, Mandaue City is the first among all the cities in the country to set up a digital business processing system.

My hats off to Mandaue City for this great accomplishment which I am sure business will truly appreciate.
