PRO-8 ultimatum: Stop gambling in one month

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Chief Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, newly installed director of the Police Regional Office-8, has issued an ultimatum to his police force in Eastern Visayas against illegal gambling in the region.

"I am directing them to solve illegal gambling in one month time, … failure to comply then I will apply a two-strike policy. I am at the same time observing their performance being new to this office," Cruz said of his field commanders around the region.

Cruz's action came after the rampant illegal gambling inside the Calbayog City Bus Terminal in Samar was reported to PNP Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, who in turn warned the region’s command to stop the illegal activities, which seemed to be tolerated by the police for unknown reasons.

After the report, Cruz ordered the Calbayog City Police to stop illegal gambling at the bus terminal and arrest the people behind it.

Cruz however did not yet say on what action he will do against officials of the Samar Police Provincial Office and the Calbayog City Police Station for tolerating the rampant illegal gambling in Calbayog City. (FREEMAN)
