Cargo Movers to test mettle of CESAFI All-Stars today

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano volleyball fans are in for a rare and exciting treat as the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers test the mettle of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) All-Star selection in a two-day goodwill games starting today at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Main gym.

Action begins at 5:30 p.m.

 Under the tutelage of De La Salle University head coach and 10-time UAAP women’s volleyball champion Ramil De Jesus, the Cargo Movers are powered by different generations of DLSU Lady Spikers headed by the team captain Cha Cruz, together with National Team frontrunners Aby Marano, Kim Fajardo, Kianna Dy, and Dawn Macandili.

Boosting  the team's star-studded roster are UAAP 75 MVP Ara Galang, UAAP 79 MVP Majoy Baron and UAAP 79 Finals MVP Desiree Cheng, Tin Tiamson, Aduke Ogunsanya, CJ Saga, Cherry Nunag, Fritz Gallenero and Shawna Lei Santos.

The Cargo Movers will take the challenge of the CESAFI stars with utmost sense of seriousness especially that it is part of their rigid preparations for the import-laced Grand Prix Conference of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL).

"The initiative with CESAFI aims to promote sportsmanship and to spread world class talent and camaraderie to local schools to develop opportunities for champions," said F2 Cargo Movers President and CEO by Efren E. Uy, whose roots came from Cebu, in a statement.

Though heavily favored, the Cargo Movers will surely have their hands full against the CESAFI selection coached by three-time Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medallist and Cebu Sports Hall of Famer Grace Antigua.

From her University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) squad, Antigua has summoned Jackie Singson, Daniella Alfeche, Paula Maninang, Linlyn Torado and Sheen Durango to carry the fight for CESAFI alongside Debbie Gamboa, Marie Malagar and Cris Jezza Estose of USC and Therese Ramas, Dij Rodriguez, Janelle Cabahug and Dyan Darantinao of Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU).

Completing the CESAFI squad are Jan Gayo and Cristylyn Seludo of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Christer Claro and Ellen Joy Gumandoy from the University of Cebu (UC). (FREEMAN)
