Poblacion Oriental, Lamac on verge of semis in Alegado Cup

CEBU, Philippines — Poblacion Oriental and Lamac sustained their winning ways to position themselves on the verge of semifinals in the Inter-Barangay Seniors A of the 7th Mayor Teresa 'Nene' P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball Cup in Consolacion.

The Malagar brothers Lemuel, Larry and Louie once again stole the show, conniving for 56 points as Poblacion Oriental pummeled Pitogo, 93-79, while Joseph Cabahug had 15 points to power Lamac past Casili, 52-42.

Thus, Poblacion Oriental and Casili set themselves up for an exciting match-up next week, with the winner earning an outright semifinal berth with a a twice-to-beat advantage. The rest of the teams will go on with their double elimination play for the remaining semis spot in their bracket.

Poblacion Oriental led by only a hairline at halftime, but whipped up a furious offensive in the final two quarters to dump Pitogo by 14 points.

On the other hand, Anecito Pitogo and Kelvin Maglasang had 16 points in between them as Lamac never looked back after jumping off to a hot 20-10 start.

In the Inter-Barangay Seniors B, Junard Pales scored 17 and Kevin Maglasang added 16 points as Lamac drubbed Cabangahan, 84-73, while Polog prevailed over Tolotolo, 44-28, in a low-scoring match.

In the SK Juniors A, Marco Booker Panta fired 32 points to lead Pitogo to an 89-82 win over Jugan, Brevin Keith Padayogdog scattered 22 points as Cabangahan bested Casili, 58-53, while Rommel Carlos Tibon and Carl Lester Rios had 32 points in between them to vault Nangka past Cansaga, 61-54.

In the Midgets A, Nicholas Fabian Pepito finished with 17 points and  Albert Cabahug added 16 as Pitogo upended Jugan, 73-68. (FREEMAN)
