Young Star

Bianca King: Queen B

THE DIALOGUE - Raymond Gutierrez -

It’s always refreshing for a star to go against the current and steer clear of the cookie-cutter image that’s been drawn for them. Bianca King isn’t afraid of speaking her mind, which isn’t about being rebellious but more about being an individual. And she’s not running on empty. This girl can host, sing, dance, and even bitch-slap you to submission if the role calls for it. It’s that dedication to her craft that separates her from your typical run-of-the-mill, fame-hungry bunch.

Currently a film student, she has since directed a music video for Hale, which won her an award, and tapped her contemporaries and possible rivals in the biz, Heart Evangelista and Rhian Ramos to act for her — a new role behind the lens that she’s taking very seriously.

With a greater sense of independence after purchasing her first home, and being fearless with her career goals, she’s one of the few who are giving the industry the remix it truly needs.

YOUNG STAR: How close is your real personality to the characters you play on TV?

BIANCA KING: Polar opposites. I’ve had the opportunity to play both protagonist and antagonist roles, but as for the villain roles that I usually do, I’m the total opposite. I’m actually quite friendly, chatty and bubbly.

Who do you follow on Twitter?

Neil Gaiman and Steve Jobs are my heroes; Zachary Levi is my crush. They all turn me into a fan girl.

Which celebrity could do with a little more respect from the public?

Charice Pempengco. I love her. She’s a fantastic vocal talent, but small minds criticize her for superficial reasons.

What do you think when you look at yourself in the mirror?

If I don’t have any makeup on, I think to myself, “Gee, you look plain today.” With makeup, I have my invisible celebrity cap on — I’m portraying a certain role in my life.

What mantra do you live by?

There are many but one that I repeat to myself a lot lately has to do with being in the public eye: “Be true to yourself and be nice to everyone no matter how hard they put you down. Because karma is a bitch.”

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

Being able to build my own house at the age of 24, being granted a full scholarship in my current school, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, and being consistently on the Dean’s List. Another one would have to be maintaining sincere friendships with the people I work with.

Given the chance, whom would you like to direct?

Iza Calzado and Jericho Rosales, because they’re such fine actors of our generation.

What should men never say?

“I don’t know what I’m doing with my life. I’m kind of just bumming around right now.” I would respond, “The door is that way.”

What should women never do?

Vomit in public from intoxication.

Whose body makes you feel like touching it?

You, because you’re so fun to hug. And comfy to lean on.

What would you rather be doing right now?

I would rather be in the States with my family and taking a vacation for a change. I don’t remember my last vacation.

What do you love about your job?

I get to express all the talents that I was blessed with and live out my passion for performing. It also helps me learn more about my film studies because I’m exposed to the work behind the scenes. I get a natural high from nailing a good scene or a dance move.

How do you feel when you’re pitted against other female stars?

It depends who it is. If it’s someone I really like, it’s extremely flattering. If it’s someone who’s not nice to me, then it makes me feel uncomfortable.
